জঙ্গিমাতা কে? Who is the Mother of Terrorism? [Bilingual]

গত বছর ফাঁসিতে মৃত্যুদণ্ড কার্যকর হওয়া হরকাতুল জিহাদ ইসলামী নেতা মুফতি মোহাম্মদ আব্দুল হান্নানের বাড়ি ছিল গোপালগঞ্জ জেলায়। ছোট ভাই মুন্সি আনিসুল ইসলাম ছিল গোপালগঞ্জের ছাত্রলীগ নেতা।

১৯৯৬ সালে আওয়ামী লীগ সরকার ক্ষমতায় আসলে গোপালগঞ্জের বিসিক শিল্পনগরীতে মুফতি হান্নানকে একটা প্লট দেয়া হয়। সরকারের সহায়তায় মুফতি হান্নান এখানে 'বঙ্গবন্ধুর সোনার বাংলা' গড়ে তুলতে শেখ হাসিনার ছায়াতলে গড়ে তোলে 'সোনার বাংলা কেমিক্যাল ফ্যাক্টরি'।

সেই ফ্যাক্টরিতে মুফতি হান্নান সাবানের বদলে বোমা বানানো শুরু করে। সেই বোমার উপকরণ আসতো ভারত থেকে। সাপ্লাই করতো আওয়ামী লীগের ধর্ম বিষয়ক সম্পাদক শেখ আব্দুল্লাহ। উল্লেখ্য এই শেখ আব্দুল্লাহ তখন ছিল গোপালগঞ্জ-৩ আসনে শেখ হাসিনার প্রতিনিধি।

মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রসহ পশ্চিমাদের কাছে বাংলাদেশে জঙ্গিবাদের উপস্থিতি আছে প্রমাণ করতে শেখ আব্দুল্লাহ মুফতি হান্নানকে দিয়ে বিভিন্ন জায়গায় বোমাবাজি করিয়ে ১৯৯৬ থেকে ২০০১ সাল পর্যন্ত ৮৬জন মানুষ হত্যা করে।

সেই আমলে জেলায় জেলায় মুফতি হান্নানের বোমা বিস্ফোরণের ঘটনা ঘটলেও শুধু একবারই মুফতি হান্নানের বোমা বিস্ফোরিত হয়নি। কবে জানেন? ২০০০ সালে শেখ হাসিনা যেবার কোটালিপাড়ায় সভা করতে যায়, তার ঠিক আগের দিন সেই বোমা ধরা পড়ে। বোমা ধরা পড়লেও মুফতি হান্নান ধরা পড়লো না। তাঁকে শেখ আব্দুল্লাহ বহাল তবিয়তেই রাখলো।

২০০৩ সালে বিএনপি সরকারের আমলে মুফতি হান্নানের যাবজ্জীবন কারাদণ্ড হয় এবং ২০০৫ সালে বিএনপি সরকার মুফতি হান্নানকে গ্রেপ্তার করে।

আওয়ামী লীগের আন্দোলনের ফসল মঈন উদ্দীনের সরকারের সময় ২০০৭ সালে মুফতি হান্নান তাঁর পুরো কুকর্মে শেখ আব্দুল্লাহর সম্পৃক্ততার কথা স্বীকার করে। সে সময় যৌথ বাহিনী এই শেখ আব্দুল্লাহর বাসায় অভিযানও চালায়।

২০০৬ সালে গ্রেফতারকৃত জেএমবি নেতা আউয়াল এবং সানি ও ২০০৭ সালে আদালতে ১৬৪ ধারায় জবানবন্দি দিয়ে তাদের পৃষ্ঠপোষক শেখ মোহাম্মদ আব্দুল্লাহ'র নাম প্রকাশ করেছিল। তারা বলেছিল, শেখ আব্দুল্লাহ'র দেয়া টাকা দিয়েই ভারত থেকে বিষ্ফোরক এনে ২০০৫ সালের ১৭ আগস্ট দেশব্যাপী বোমা হামলা করা হয়েছিল।

২০১০ সালে শেখ হাসিনার সরকার ক্ষমতায় থাকাকালে আবারো মুফতি হান্নান কোর্টে স্বপ্রণোদিত হয়ে স্বীকার করে শেখ হাসিনার সভাস্থলে বোমা পুঁতে রাখার নির্দেশ দিয়েছিল শেখ আব্দুল্লাহ।

কমপক্ষে তিনজন জঙ্গী আদালতে স্বীকারোক্তি দিয়ে বলেছে যে তাদের পরিচালিত জঙ্গী হামলার অর্থ যোগানদাতা এবং পৃষ্ঠপোষক ছিল শেখ আব্দুল্লাহ। সেই শেখ আব্দুল্লাহকেই ২০১৪ সালে শেখ হাসিনা আবারও গোপালগঞ্জ-৩ আসনে তাঁর প্রতিনিধির দায়িত্ব দেন।

এইবার একটু সবাই চিন্তা করে বলেন তো দেখি, জঙ্গিমাতা কে?

Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (HuJI) leader Mufti Hannan, who was hanged last year following a court verdict hailed from Gopalganj district of Bangladesh. His younger brother Munshi Anisul Islam was a leader of Chhatro League- the students' wing of Awami League.

After Awami League came to power, in 1996, the government gave Hannan a plot in Gopalganj's industrial city of BSCIC. To fulfil 'Bangabandhu's dream of Sonar Bangla', Hannan set up 'Sonar Bangla Chemical Factory' on that plot, with support from Sheikh Hasina.

In that factory, he began manufacturing bombs, instead of soap. Raw materials for the bombs, brought in from India, were supplied by Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, who was then Awami League's Religious Affairs Secretary- a post which he still holds. Interestingly, during that period Abdullah was Sheikh Hasina's representative in the Gopalganj-3 parliamentary seat.

Following Sheikh Abdullah’s directive, Mufti Hannan killed at least 86 people in terror bomb attacks between 1996 and 2001, to push the government's agenda and show the West, including the US, that Bangladesh was ravaged by Islamist terrorism.

Although Mufti Hannan was successful in his bomb attacks in all cases across the districts, very interestingly, only in one case his bombs did not explode. It was in 2000; his bombs were intercepted in Kotalipara where the next day Sheikh Hasina was to hold a meeting. Although the bombs were intercepted, Mufti Hannan was not caught. He remained at large thanks to a strategy by Sheikh Abdullah.

In 2003, Mufti Hannan was tried in absentia for the terror bomb attacks when BNP was in power and handed out life term in jail. In 2005, BNP-led government managed to arrest him.

In 2007, Mufti Hannan confessed in the court that his terrorist activities had all been backed by Sheikh Abdullah. This confession came during the regime of army-backed Moin-Fakhruddin government. We should not forget that the interim government was the outcome of the movement by Awami League- as the party itself claimed. Following that confession, the joint forces raided Sheikh Abdullah’s residence.

 JMB leaders Awwal and Sunny, who were arrested in 2006, said in a confessional statement in the court in 2007 that Sheikh Abdullah sponsored their terrorist activities. Abdullah provided fund to buy Indian raw materials for bombs- which were used on August 17, 2005, across the country, the two JMB militants admitted.

In 2010, when Sheikh Hasina-led government was in power, again Mufti Hannan voluntarily admitted in the court that following a directive from Sheikh Abdullah he had planned to plant bombs at Sheikh Hasina’s place of meeting in Kotalipara.

At least three militant leaders admitted that their terrorist activities were supported by Sheikh Abdullah. Yet, in 2014, Sheikh Hasina made Abdullah her representative in the Gopalganj-3 parliamentary seat again.

Now, I have a question: Could you tell me who in Bangladesh is our “Jangee-mata” or Mother of Terrorism?
